Automobile-Oriented Places: Colorado Suburb

suburb7.jpg (41597 bytes)

This aerial photograph of a housing development near Denver shows many of the characteristics of automobile-oriented development. There is only one land use present here: single family houses. Shops, workplaces, and schools can only be accessed by a lengthy drive. Houses are placed at the center of large lots, and large areas are given over to roads and driveways, resulting in a low density. In most parts of the USA, this is the only form of development permitted by zoning laws.  Photo Credit: www.airphotona.com
