URBAN FABRIC TRANSIT | MYTHS
taxi2.JPG (1070 bytes) PARATRANSIT

Para-transit is defined as transit services that do not run fixed routes or schedules, but can deliver passengers from anywhere to anywhere, covering the trips that cannot be made by walking or transit, such as trips involving heavy loads and late-night trips. The most common form of transit is taxis, other forms include airport shuttles, and dial-a-ride services for disabled people.Taxis are less efficient than private cars because they are larger, generally carry only one passenger, and spend a lot of time driving around without passengers. However, the overall efficiency of an urban transportation system that includes walking, transit and para-transit is very good, because para-transit only makes up a tiny fraction of the total trips, and enables people to avoid the expense of owning a car.

The U.K. has the world's only purpose-built taxis. This latest model combines modern engineering and accessibilty standards with classic looks.

Paratransit can give mobility to those unable to drive or use transit.
